Unless otherwise noted, shipping and delivery are at the buyer’s expense. We maintain a list of shipping firms and are happy to assist with quotes. Baileywyck can ship any item to any destination in the world safely and fully insured. Buyers are welcome to contact us to discuss shipping options and arrangements—customer service is a priority, and our goal is to make the shipping process smooth and pain free. Cost & Time
. Fees for shipping and delivery vary depending on the value and size of the item shipped, as well as how and where it is shipped. For furniture, it is typically most cost effective to ship single-pieces ship via blanket-wrap, consolidated shipping services. Delivery time is dependent on the schedule of the particular shipper (consolidators wait until they have a full truck) and is typically within two to eight weeks of pickup (sometimes more, sometimes less).
    Procedure
. i) Baileywyck (typically) obtains quotes and forwards them to you; ii) you select a shipper and pay them directly; iii) shipper contacts us to coordinate pickup. We are not affiliated with any shipping company, and we obtain quotes purely as a service to our customers. You are more than welcome to have your own shipper pick up the item for delivery.
    Local Pickup
. Buyers are welcome to pickup their purchase/s from our brick-and-mortar store located in Middleburg, Virginia (± 50 miles/75 minutes west of Washington, DC). Please remember to bring your own blankets, ropes, tie-down straps, etc. We are happy to help load.
    Local/Semi-Local Delivery
. Depending on the item/s purchased and delivery location, we may be able to deliver in our Sprinter van. We charge a reasonable fee for this service.
    Nonlocal Delivery
. For longer distance shipping throughout the U.S. and worldwide, we are happy to help arrange and coordinate shipping and delivery of your purchase/s, including obtaining quotes. If you don’t have your own shipper, we maintain a list of third-party shipping and crating firms.

    Antiques & Provenance
. The provenance and exact age of antiques are, by their very nature, difficult to pinpoint. Our merchandise can be well over 100 years old. While we endeavor to give accurate and honest descriptions and photos, we do not list or take pictures of every scratch, nick, chip, etc., as almost anything this old will show signs of use and wear.
    All Merchandise is Sold “As-Is

Grand Harmonicon / Glass Harp / Musical Glasses
    Circa 1830, Baltimore, MD
    Description
Beautifully designed and well-maintained 1830's glass and mahogany Grand Harmonicon, also known as a Glass Harp or Musical Glasses.  Mozart, Handel, Beethoven, Strauss, and more than 100 other composers wrote works for this instrument.
    About the Piece
.  Wheeled pier table/pedestal base (4 casters) and locked case (lock functions, key included).  A few cracks and slight imperfections, but none take away the beauty of this musical invention that some say began with Ben Franklin and a trip abroad.  It has 21 of the 24 original mouth-blown, leaded glasses all marked with the appropriate note.  One glass has significant flaws.  Also included with this glorious instrument is a restored/rebound book, "Preceptor for the Grand Harmonicon, or Musical Glasses," by Francis H. Smith, Baltimore, 1831
    .
Provenance.  This magificent piece comes from the collection of the Maryland Historical Society (see
page 152, “ Furniture in Maryland, 1740-1940: The Collection of the Maryland Historical Society”).  Believed to have been gifted to the society in 1987 by Mrs. F. Glover of North Carolina.
    Historical Note
: The author of the included text, Francis Hopkinson Smith (1797-1872), a grandson and namesake of Francis Hopkinson, signer of the Declaration of Independence (for Pennsylvania). He was apparently quite the inventor, although his main source of income appears to have been as an insurance salesman. His own son, also named Francis Hopkinson Smith (1838-1915) but apparently not accustomed to using Jr., was a prominent artist and is best remembered for building the foundation for the Statue of Liberty.
