Description
This is an original product, NOT A REPRODUCTION OR REPRINT, a very rare, rolled, never folded
Euro Disneyland Souvenir Map from the private collection of Disney Imagineer and designer of Euro Disneyland's Main Street,
Eddie Sotto.
(seen clowning with map artist Sam Mc Kim). It's a whopping
113 x 75 cm (44.5″ x 29.5″)
This is the last map by
Disney Legend Sam McKim,
who came out of retirement to create it, and had to recover from a heart attack just to complete it, delaying it's release, and we are glad he did! The signature "band of characters" bordering the park is a detail that began when Sam's penned the first 1958 Disneyland Map, and Tony Baxter wanted that legacy to continue. As you can imagine, McKim's maps are the most highly valued for their fanciful detail, historic significance, and use of vibrant color. His window on Main Street is as a cartographer, as his maps are legendary.
This is the very first Euro Disneyland map issued in 1992, and is both beautiful and an historic "time capsule" at once, as this original version depicts Imagineer
Tony Baxter's original vision for the park
, with the future attractions
"Discovery Mountain"
, (an indoor world prior to "Space Mountain"). and an
"Indiana Jones Temple"
attraction that the Steam Train bisects. Sam also illustrated many details inside the rides. Listed are bygone Main Street USA shops and attractions like "Town Square Photography" and "Walt's Restaurant" in its two story original form before "Lilly's Boutique".. So much to remember of the original 1992 park prior to later additions like the "Nautilus Submarine", "Space Mountain", "Storybookland", "The Temple of Peril", "The Aladdin Walk thru" and more! Truly the ultimate frame worthy
30th anniversary souvenir
for a Euro Disneyland fan as its incredible level of detail, like the park, will last for years on your wall.
Why it's rare.
The 1992 maps you'll usually find for sale, if you find them, were
sold folded and bagged
, making for several creases running through the image area, and in time potentially damaging the print quality or tearing.
Restoration to mount and remove the "creased" effects can be very costly.
This rare copy is a "proof" was never folded or bagged, so it is pristine,
ready to be mounted and framed
after living in a tube for 30 years. If desired,
Eddie
Sotto, one of the 5 senior land designers of the park, is willing to autograph the map to you at no additional charge
. I have read that unfolded and unsigned versions of this map have sold for up to 00. Ships rolled in a mailing tube and buyer pays insurance.
