This is a RARE & UNIQUE 1999 souvenir full color POSTER from the JAPAN TOUR of the musical hit
THE KING & I. Written by LEEBER & LOEWE
and directed by JAMES HAMMERSTEIN, son of Oscar Hammerstein. It starred Broadway, TV and film star, STACY KEACH as the King and the last actress to play opposite Yul Brenner on B’way, MARY BETH PEIL. It featured future B’way performers CLAUDIA CATANIA (THE MOST HAPPY FELLA), KEITH BUTTERAUGH ( COMPANY), WILLIAM PARRY ( SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE) and TOM SOUHRADA (MARY POPPINS) The original JEROME ROBBINS CHOREOGRAPHY was recreated by YURIKO, who was in the original B’way production.
This production was a B’way National Tour for a year prior to this tour of Japan, where it played in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.
The dimensions are 20” x 28” and is glossy full color. It is printed on heavy glossy paper. The text is in Japanese and English. It features a beautiful photo of the end of Act 1 with most of the cast. Very well made. A truly gorgeous theatrical piece of history!
